         Please assist. 
         
1.GOAL: To know if possible to get access to hardware timestamping on NIC with SR-IOV virtualization 

2.ISSUE ENCOUNTERED: not able to access hardware timestamping 

3. FACTS: 
-NIC Model: Customer did not provide exact model said it is discrete network adapter  "Intel Corporation 82599ES 10-Gigabit SFI/SFP" 

-In a non-virtualization environment, the customer can configure HW timestamping by passing 
hwtstamp_config structure to ioctl(). 

-But when he tried the same operation in a Xen based VM which uses SR-IOV with 82599 NNIC, the same 
operation would fail (getting operation not supported message after calling ioctl()) 

4. TROUBLESHOOTING DONE: n/a 


5. SOLUTION/RECOMMENDATION:  escalate to further check if hardware timestamping can be accessed with SR-IOV
